Tango Classes

Matthew y Arnika

6 Saturdays 12 May-16 June,
22 Webb Street, Wellington

Introduction 3:30 - 4:30 PM

This is a course designed for peoplewho have danced little or no Tango. The aim is to get a taste of the enjoyment of dancing Tango and get you started on the right foot ;-). Why is tango held in such high regard? What makes it different? How can I get around the floor dancing Tango? This course qualifies you for the second step program at the  New Zealand Tango Festival in Wellington later in June and to receive a discount. www.nztangofestival.co.nz

The first class is free so you can take a look at the course.
$75 for course or $15 per class. Practice session free for course participants.

Open Tango Class 2:30 - 3:30 PM

6 separate classes on various aspects of tango. Being, doing, principals, steps.
$15 per class. Intro class and Práctica free for course participants.

Practice Session:
Saturdays 4:30-7:00 PM, $8 unless you have done one of the courses that day. This is a relaxed space to try out new things; a chance to reinforce what you have learnt; an essential stepping-stone between learning new things and using them instinctively in a dance. Seek help, askquestions, stop and start, or simply dance. People at all levels drop in.

Alicia Pons **Attention all milongueros**

Last year Alicia did not make it to the festival as she was stuck in Chile under a rather large and very foreboding ash cloud so we decided to bring her again so you could finally get your Alicia fix! We are very excited to be hosting her.

As a teacher, Alicia emphasizes the partners’ connection, and in particular the woman’s ability to not just follow, but to be an equal protagonist in the dance. Alicia was trained in classical dance from an early age and as a young woman performed in some of Buenos Aires’ most well known theatres, the Colon, the Coliseo, and the Alvear.  Alicia’s teaching methods are grounded in her academic training.

She holds a degree in Educational Science and Psychology, and she is currently an instructor for university level education students, in addition to her teaching, being a mother of two sons, and running her family real estate business. She is a very warm and caring person who loves to share her knowledge.

If you really feel like a milonguero challenge - immerse with Alica!  We urge you to make the most of this fantastic opportunity. Remember she has an immersion before and after the festival. Click here to read about what Alicia will be covering in her course.

Spaces left for leads and follows.

Aussie Dancers Special (till 15 May)

You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the selection of your extra free workshop.  It's that easy.

Also, check out and subscribe to grabaseat for alerts on very cheap flights between Australia and New Zelaland.

Quality and Comfort Hotels
Have you booked your rooms yet? If you are travelling from out of town and need a cosy, warm place to stay for the festival - why not hook up with a friend and share a room. All the evening milongas are walking distance from the Quality and Comfort Hotels and there is a free shuttle service available from the two hotels to Te Whaea (where the festival is held). So they really are in a great location.  Click here for the prices and for details on how to register or contact the hotel directly. If you want to share with someone you can always send out a message on our Facebook page with your contact details.   All our teachers are staying at the Quality and Comfort Hotels with the festival team .... just so you know …. and many of our Australian dancers book the place out. So we suggest you don't delay. You can come and join us in the breakfast room if you like before we all head up to Te Whaea.

Any old glamour will do!

This is the simple yet elegant theme for your grand milonga on the Saturday night.   We are thinking diamonds, tuxes, chignons, pearls, foxes or fakes.  You choose  - just look fabulous darling!

Look forward to exciting updates about, the Cultural Day, Wallflower Team, Videographer and Photographer, guest DJs and more... it is going to be an awesome festival!

A huge thanks to everyone who made the trip up AND down to Otaki for Milonga de las Tartas (there are a few photos up on our website from it - http://tangoabrazo.co.nz/photo-gallery/ ) We all appreciate it so much; a big thanks as well to all those who supported the milonga, even if they couldn't make it on the day.

We just had it pointed out to us that our original date for Milonga de las Tartas was clashing with Mother's Day, so we've moved the date by a fortnight.

We hope you'll join us for our next quarterly afternoon of food and tango...
