Helpful tips for first time NZ Tango Festival goers
  1.  Australians bring a warm coat! kiwis alerady know about the Wellington breeze...
  2.  Bring a water bottle, there are flitered water stations to fill up from.
  3.  Bring cash for the dance gear stalls and merchandise, there is eftpos and credit cards for registration desk only.
  4.  Check the Events Page for the most up to date event info and print it off to take. There will be copies of the workshop timetable available at the registration desk.
  5.  Check the info page for registration times and locations and if registering Friday morning at Te Whaea give yourself 30 minutes before your first workshop in case the desk is busy.
  6.  Come early to the welcome dinner on Thursday night (7:30) if you wish to eat with us (casual a-la-carte menu) to ensure you get a good table and we can make more room after dinner to dance, the menu looks great and is priced between $17 - $24 for mains.
  7.  If you do not know many people, actively seek dance partners for the evenings during your workshops, these are the people at your level and it is easier to ask while practising so you know who to look out for in the evening.
  8.  If you find you are not getting dances in the evening, please take action, it is no fun sitting out, go to one of our crew (identifiable by a lanyard around their necks) they will point you in the direction of the Taxi dance manager who will ensure one of our taxi dancers will visit your table. The most magic moments in the tango festival always happen on the dance floor and we want everyone to have the opportunity for magic!

Ten "Taxi" Dancers at the festival:
We have ten outgoing, friendly "Taxi" dancers who are at the festival to help even up workshops and ensure everyone gets a chance to dance if they want to in the evenings, they will dance to your level

Immersion Course places left:
There are two spaces left on Fabrizio and Celi’s immersion course for advanced leaders. This course has booked out every year we have held it, and many people have come back for the third and fourth time as they find his style of teaching so valuable for improving their dancing. So if you decide you can do it (it starts on Tuesday) email us now and we can hold your place whie you register and we can let one of the wait listed followers know that they are on the course.

Tenth Aniversary Tango Ball Chateau Tongariro 2011:
Next year will be the 10th Anniversary of The New Zealand Tango Festival.
As well as the festival itself, which will be full of special surprises I have been looking in to a special weekend away, which brings it all back to where it began at the Chateau Tongariri.
I have always wanted to go back to the chateau and dance under the huge chandelier surrounded by lounge chairs with the mountain outside the window. There is one weekend date available only in 2011, Saturday the 4th of November, where we could have the whole place to ourselves, dance all night if we wanted to and wake up and dance through breakfast, go for a walk in the stunning national park, play a round of golf or dance through lunch…

But I need to book out the whole place, so I need a show of hands to see whether it is going to be possible, and before September there would need to be a deposit.
The weekend would look like this:
Package includes:
  • Full buffet dinnerTwin/double share room (single rate plus $100) Spa, Sauna, plunge pool
  • Full cooked breakfast
  • Tango Ball
  • Breakfast milonga
$295.00 per person
Please email me with your interest and I will keep you posted after the festival.

Top New Zealand Dance photographer needs your vote:
Rowena Baines is applying for a grant to help her make an exhibition of New Zealand Dance shots she has taken over the years, her work is outstanding and deserves to be seen on a larger scale. It only takes seconds to vote and is very straight forward.
Click here for the website and type in Rowena in the "search by first name" field and then click on the tick box by her profile to vote.
“My goal is to complete a series of ten artistic photographic collections, each containing ten images following along the same theme. The ground work for over half of these collections has already been done, yet a lack of funds impedes further progress. My aim is to display the high creative and technical level of New Zealand dance through equally high level photography. I wish to internationally tour the ten sectors as one large travelling exhibition, giving exposure to our New Zealand dancers and promoting the arts.”
