Queer Tango Wellington holds a practica and a class every Monday from 7-9pm, either at the Crossways Community Centre or occasionally at the Tararua Tramping Club (both in Mount Victoria)
$10 per class.
Check the website www.queertangowellignton.com for venue details (including address and map) and other announcements each week.
A queer perspective is one that allows and encourages fluid and changing gender roles, images and identities. Queer tango breaks the rigid gender roles of the tango world. It’s a home for same sex dance partners, women who like to lead, men who like to follow, and anyone else interested in new ways of experiencing the roles of the dance, like swapping the lead.
Classes are in the nuevo tango style and everyone is encouraged to take turns leading and following as we learn new steps. Above all, queer tango is inclusive, which means that people are welcome to dance tango in any role they want, including the traditional ones.
Please note, for a period starting on 12 April, our queer tango classes will be taught by visiting tango teacher Sebastian Arrua from Buenos Aires. Sebastian will also be visiting other parts of NZ, but will spend much of his time based in Wellington and he will be attending the tango festival in June.
See the website www.queertangowellington.com for details on all Sebastian’s classes, including how to book private lessons.
