We've been contacted by a group of Kiwis renting upmarket apartments. They have apartments in downtown Buenos Aires and in Mar del Plata:
The Buenos Aires apartment is very close to the avenida de mayo close to some tango bars(jacaranda tower, bernardo de irogoyen and adolfo alsina, monseratt, buenos aires) and has a view of the main avenue, 9 de Julio.
The prices are approximately $US 400 per week or $US 100 per night but we are negotiable if contacted direct to our office and not through agents.
Mar del Plata is a seaside resort 5 hours south east of buenos aires and is more suited for a break from the hussle bussle of BA. it has nice beaches etc.

Rental Terms
The rental rates are as follows:
$150.-(dollars or euros) per week: small single room for one person,
$175.-(dollars or euros) per week: single room normal size for one person.
$270.-(dollars or euros) per week: big room with double bed.
A down payment of $l00.-(dollars or euros) is required to reserve your room. Please send an electronic money transfer by Western Union in United States Dollars to Jorge Martinez CI 5.608.511(I.D. number). As soon as the transfer has been done notify us by sending us the transfer number by fax or e-mail, so that funds can be collected in Bs.As.
We would appreciate if upon arrival you would pay the rest of your room rental in United States dollars.
If for any serious reason you cannot comply with the terms of our contract, we could modify it.
It is advisable to bring the dollars you need for your stay with you so that you can change them at a profitable rate.
Of course you can also bring American Express travelers checks which can be changed for a fixed rate at the American Express, or you can use your credit card.
From the airport:
The best way to get to my place from the airport (30 minutes) is by a "remise"(taxi). This way is very safe and the cost is $US 20 (american dollars).
You can do it in a little bit more complicated way: go from the airport to the center of town by a Manuel Tienda Leon bus (about 3 dollars) and from there take a taxi to my place which is at Rosario street 178, 5th floor, aparment 12 . The area is called Caballito.
It takes 2 hours, but the low budget travelers have the option of bus number 86. It costs 2 argentine pesos. The coins can be achieved at the Banco Nación, after customs. You have to get off at the Parque Rivadavia almost in front of the Mariatango house.
Please, be so kind to inform me by fax or e-mail about the air line, the flight number and the date of your arrival.
Your rental includes:
-Private bedroom with closet.
-Shared bathroom with shower. There are 3 bathrooms, (we provide the sheets and towels).
-Breakfast: coffee, milk, cakes, cereals, bread, cookies, etc.
-A lot of information about classes, milongas, shows, tours, private teachers, theatre, restaurants, leather shop, tango shoes, etc.
- Accompaniment to one milonga every day.
-Transfer for programmed activities.
-One tour in the weekend.
The kitchen can be used to prepare meals. There is a microwave oven, a food storage and a refrigerator/freezer.
There is a corner with a television a video and stereo set.
You can be reached by family and friends at 0054l-1-4-904-l4l7 (there is an answering machine)
For local and international callings use a telephone card, which can be obtained from the Telecenter just across the road. They can also inform you about the cheapest times of the day to make calls to your country.
There are a lot of Internet shops nearby to check and send your mails. Only if it is REALLY URGENT you may use my computer.
Smoking is ONLY allowed in your own room.
For privacy and security reasons of our guests we do not allow visitors in the apartment. Maria Teresa should be informed if you are going to receive friends.
I use to give extensive information on classes, "milongas" and where to go in Bs.As. I like to take my guests to places where I can introduce them to dancers who I know well.
Caballito, where I live is a nice and safe area. MariaTango house is not far away from the well known Rivadavia Park in front of which you can take a bus or the subway (line A, Rio de Janeiro station) to the center of town or to the dancing places.
There are a lot of Banks, supermarkets, telecenters, Internetshops and coffee houses in the neighborhood.
I hope that you and your friends will feel at home in MariaTango house when you come to visit us in Buenos Aires.
